A grant of up to 50% of the course fee is available, with a maximum of ISK 40,000 per year. This amount is deducted from the annual maximum grant entitlement but does not affect the accumulation of grant rights.

Leisure courses must meet the fund's criteria for qualifying courses (see below). Beginner-level courses may be eligible; however, it is important to note that continued practice or training in the same discipline is not eligible for a grant. Private lessons for leisure activities and therapeutic or treatment-based services do not meet the fund's definition of a qualifying course.
All fitness-related courses, such as yoga, dance, golf, skiing, tennis, running, and similar activities, are regarded as ongoing practice unless they are specifically designated as beginner courses. Please note that a grant can only be awarded once for a beginner course in the same discipline.

Grants are only available for courses held within Iceland.
Courses must meet the following criteria:
Clearly defined beginning and end
Open enrollment
Counselling, personal plans and supervision do not qualify for grants
Characterized by accessibility of information
Follows a prepared plan or definition
The following must be submitted with the application:

Invoice issued in the applicant's name
A paid invoice issued in the applicant's name, clearly stating the course or program description and the name of the education or training provider.

Proof of Payment
Proof of payment, such as a screenshot from your online banking or a payment receipt.
Grant Eligibility Requirements
The course must meet the fund's criteria for a qualifying course.
The invoice must not be more than 12 months old.
A grant can only be claimed once for the same invoice.
Members apply for grants through their respective trade union. VR members submit their applications through My Pages on the VR website.
