Individual grants

Members of VR and other member unions within the Commercial Federation of Iceland (LÍV) may apply for grants to support education, job-related courses and conferences, leisure courses, prior learning assessment (PLA), and travel expenses incurred in connection with job-related education, courses, and conferences, in accordance with the Fund's rules.

A grant may not be applied for more than once in respect of the same receipt or invoice.

Members receiving rehabilitation benefits or disability pension retain their full entitlement for 12 months from the date on which employer contributions to the Fund cease. Entitlement to leisure course grants is retained for 36 months. Eligibility is based on the last employer contribution received by the Fund.

Please note that the Fund does not receive information about individuals who are receiving rehabilitation benefits or disability pension. Applicants receiving rehabilitation benefits or disability pension must therefore submit either a copy of their disability certificate issued by the Icelandic Social Insurance Administration (TR) or confirmation of receipt of rehabilitation benefits together with their application to the Educational Fund.

See Rule 1.2 of the Fund's Rules.

Important information

Grants from the Fund used for vocational education or training are exempt from withholding tax. Where a grant is not taxable, the corresponding education or training expenses must be claimed as a deduction against the grant in the annual tax return.
